Ella Enchanted

I read the book Ella Enchanted for the first time for this class. I have to admit that I never realized that this story had anything to do with Cinderella. I had heard about the book before, but had never took the time to read it. I am glad that we had the opportunity to read this version of the classic fairytale. This story is by far my new favorite version of Cinderella. This book is a great plus for the feminist who saw Cinderella as a disgrace for women. I liked that Ella was such a self suffient person. She did not need people to save her from the evil things around her. The only down fall to her character was the fact that she had to obey everyone. She was able to tame the ogres, but due to a command that they had given her, she had to wait for Char to take her away from the situation. She was also strong minded, telling the ogres exactly what she thought of them. She is definitly different from all the other Cinderellas that we have read about. This book is very well written. I throughly enjoyed the events that occured through out it.
