Is Alice a nightmare?

Yesterday, in class we discussed the fact that many people do not see Alice's Adventure in Wonderland as a pleasant outing. I am one of those people that see the book more as a nightmare than as an adventure. I think that imagining yourself changing sizes and being lost in a graden would scare most children. I dont think that I ever read this book as a child, and I may have found the reasoning behind not doing so. I hated sacry books when I was younger, well I hate them now too. There is no way that I would have ever been able to complete this book, it would have scared me during the first chapter...I mean who want to fall down a hole for that long? I have to admit that I could see the title changed to Alice's Nightmare Underground.
